When a client approaches us with an idea that may seem odd to most, like the development of a cartoon character of an elephant doing yoga – for us, it’s just as simple as putting pencil to paper. Several sketches were produced to get the feel for an elephant doing yoga. A few key poses were presented and everyone was very impressed with the Natarajasana or “Lord of the dance pose.” Once that choice was made, the final illustration began.

Design:
One hour of research time was spent on Yoga poses and elephants. Another hour was spent drawing sketches on paper to determine how this concept could work. Not everyone was convinced that it was actually going to be possible and most of all presentable once completed. Eight sketches were presented and the “Natarajasana” pose was a great success.

Production:
After the concept sketch was approved, the final illustration process could begin. Normally, the rule when coloring a logo is to keep the amount of colors low – 3 is good, 4 is a bit much, and anything over that amount is considered too many colors. Although, it was decided by all parties involved that the elephant deserved extra shading to emphasize the impossible thought but playful visual of an elephant doing a yoga pose, we all agreed and the final illustration was finished as a seven color solution.
