Creating a custom brochure is more than just designing a simple handout. It’s an opportunity to invent a branded identity that re-enforces a company’s industry perspective, vision and status. Not only that, but it is left behind for others to review, it will be judged long after the sales meeting is over, and by people you never even met. The design, the shape, the feel of the paper is important too. Selecting a size and shape is the first step, knowing the cost of such a print project is the second. Often times, printers will offer templates for brochure design – this is not one of those projects. This custom 7″ x 7″ square tri-fold brochure was custom designed using only the company logo as a precursor to what you see in this sample.

Design:
The first thing we did was re-design the logo. Two hours of research time was spent on the photography used for this project. Three hours were spent drawing sketches on paper to determine the design. The final low resolution concept took six hours to create – dropping in lo-res photos, text, headlines, lo-res graphics and a big illustration for the center spread. With only two hours of graphic and text revisions, we were able to get this design approved very quickly and then began the final hi-res production mechanicals.

Production:
After the lo-res concept was approved, the final hi-res graphic production began. Photography purchases were made, graphics were created as 350 dpi images, the text was finalized and headlines were approved. Producing a design like this as a high resolution production mechanical comes with many little detail issues that nobody notices, for instance the desert image was extensively edited to not only fit that area, but to also fit the text. The mountain did not have two peeks before it was edited and sky is a completely original addition from an entirely different photograph. Creating space for text is not always simple – yet, anything is possible with a compromise.
